Spokane String Quartet : 2023-2024 Season

The Spokane String Quartet gets an early start on Black History Month with String Quartet No. 1 in G Major by Florence Price. Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, Price (1887-1953) was educated at the New England Conservatory of Music and was the first African-American woman to be recognized as a symphonic composer, and the first to have a composition played by a major orchestra. She composed more than 300 works, including four symphonies, four concertos, and numerous choral works, art songs, chamber music and music for solo instruments. Also on the program are works by Beethoven and Mendelssohn.

• Florence Price: String Quartet No. 1 in G Major

• Felix Mendelssohn: String Quartet in F Minor, Op. 80
